Proportion and Balance - Take into account issues such as size, shape and visual weight. A lightweight set of curtains in a dark color, for example, can appear to be very heavy. And beautifully pleated drapes can come off as “just not enough” if they fit too tightly to the windows. Seeing your room as blocks of color will help to provide balance and proportion.
Don't get scared off and quit yet - this is all easier than you might be thinking. You'll probably just know what rod is right when you see it. After all, it will probably catch your eye because it's your style. So hang in there 'cause now's the fun part: shopping!
Designing with Curtains: It’s one thing to mix and match styles of drapes until you feel as though you have a selection that will work more or less OK with a specific room or area—and quite another to make conscious design choices along the way that result in a more cohesive effect.
